When you commission a new website, one of the first questions I’ll ask is where you see your organisation in five years’ time. A future-proof website supports where you’re heading, rather than only meeting your requirements today.

The hidden cost of a starter website

A simple five-page website without a content management system (often called a flat site) looks attractive on paper, with a low upfront cost and little to manage. Many online companies sell these as starter packages, bundled with a domain name and hosting.

The problems tend to appear later. Some of these packages register your domain (your website address) in the provider’s name instead of yours, so moving away means losing the address your customers know, or paying to get the address back. A limited number of pages also holds back your search engine visibility, because each page is another chance to appear for the searches your customers make.

A future-proof website starts with WordPress

Building on WordPress from the outset makes adding a blog, an online shop or new sections straightforward, with no limit on the number of pages. Your website grows alongside your organisation, without needing a replacement every few years.

WordPress also handles features off-the-shelf builders often restrict or leave out altogether, such as online calculators, surveys and questionnaires.

Control over your own content

You’re free to add and update content whenever you want, without restrictions. I provide training for your team, and there’s a wide range of online resources if you’d rather learn at your own pace.

You don’t have to do everything yourself. A retainer with me covers as much or as little of the work as you need, and adapts as your organisation’s requirements change.

Easier redesigns and no lock-in

WordPress keeps your content separate from the design, so a redesign or refreshed look is a simpler job, and costs less as a result. There’s also no shortage of WordPress developers, so you’re never tied to one person, including me.

What WordPress gives a growing organisation

  • Full control over your website and your domain
  • A straightforward route to a refresh or redesign
  • Extra functionality as and when you need it
  • Your team adds and edits content without waiting on anyone
