Privacy policy

This is my privacy policy for christopherdouglas.co.uk. I’ve written it myself, in plain terms, so you can see exactly what happens to your data if you get in touch or browse this site. If anything here isn’t clear, email me and I’ll explain it properly.

I’m Christopher Douglas, trading as Christopher Douglas Consulting, a sole trader based in Suffolk, England. I’m the data controller for this website, which means I’m the one responsible for how your information is handled.

What I collect, and why

If you fill in a contact or site audit form

This site uses Contact Form 7, a WordPress plugin. When you submit a form, the details you enter (typically your name, email address, and message) are sent to my email inbox. I don’t keep a separate copy in the WordPress database — the submission exists as an email, and nowhere else.

I use this information to reply to your enquiry and, where relevant, to discuss the work you’ve asked about. I do this on the basis that it’s necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract, or because I have a legitimate interest in responding to enquiries sent to me directly.

If you email me directly

Some pages on this site simply give you my email address rather than a form. If you use it, the same principle applies: I’ll use what you send me to reply and to discuss any work, and it stays in my email inbox.

Browsing the site

I use Google Analytics to understand how people use this site, for example which pages are visited and roughly how many visitors I get. Google Analytics uses cookies to do this and processes some data outside the UK/EU. You can find out more about how Google handles this data in Google’s own privacy policy.

Beyond Google Analytics, this site only sets the standard cookies WordPress itself needs to function. I don’t run advertising trackers, retargeting pixels, or third-party embeds like chat widgets or reCAPTCHA.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Doing so may affect how some parts of the site behave, though it won’t stop the site working.

Who I share it with

I don’t sell, rent, or trade your data. The only third parties involved are the services that make the site and my inbox work:

– Google Analytics, for the visitor statistics described above
– Hostinger, which hosts the website and processes data as part of that
– Google Workspace, which handles enquiries sent through the contact form or by email

I don’t otherwise pass your details to anyone else, and I don’t use any client contact data for marketing you haven’t asked for.

How long I keep it

Enquiry emails are kept for as long as they’re relevant to a conversation or piece of work, and I delete or archive them once they’re not needed. Google Analytics data is retained according to Google’s own default settings, which you can review in their documentation.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

– ask what personal data I hold about you
– ask me to correct anything inaccurate
– ask me to delete your data, where there’s no good reason for me to keep it
– ask me to restrict or object to how I use it
– ask for a copy of your data in a portable format

To use any of these, email me at mail@christopherdouglas.co.uk. If you’re not happy with how I’ve handled your data, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Changes to this policy

If I change how this site collects or uses data, I’ll update this page and change the date at the top.
